GM Flora and Fauna (GMFF) is an independent international community of radio amateurs dedicated to bringing amateur radio into the great outdoors. Established in 2009, GMFF has its own history, identity, references, activities, awards, and community.
GMFF is not connected, affiliated, administered, endorsed, or controlled by WWFF, GxFF, or any of their associated programmes. GMFF operates independently and is responsible for its own programme, rules, awards, activities, references, and development.
From nature reserves and mountain summits to historic castles, rugged coastlines, remote islands, and other remarkable locations around the world, our activators combine portable radio operation with exploration and adventure. Through their work, they promote both the enjoyment of amateur radio and appreciation of natural, historical, and cultural heritage.
Our activities include Scottish, UK, and international award and activation programmes. Whether operating on HF, VHF, or other bands, GMFF members enjoy taking amateur radio beyond the shack and into the heart of nature.
Each year, our operators make thousands of QSOs from unique, beautiful, and sometimes challenging locations. Through expedition reports, online logs, award programmes, and shared experiences, we connect activators, chasers, listeners, and supporters across the wider amateur radio community.
GMFF issues national and international awards, organises expeditions and contests, supports portable radio activity, and encourages operators to explore new places, new skills, and new challenges. We believe amateur radio is not only about contacts and signals, but also about friendship, respect, independence, discovery, and adventure.
GMFF is more than a radio programme. It is a community built on passion, experience, freedom, and the spirit of the outdoors — in Scotland, across the UK, and around the world.
